Suzy Nakamura is an American actress and comedian of Japanese descent. From her diverse acting background in TV dramas like The West Wing and Private Practice to sitcoms like According to Jim and Dr. Ken, Suzy's body of work speaks for itself.

She has also been in numerous movies -- both comedy and drama.

Besides acting, Nakamura is also an improv comedian who has performed for many comedy establishments throughout the US.

7. Married to Writer Harry Hannigan

Suzy has been married to writer Harry Hannigan since 2012. Hannigan was credited with writing on several episodes of the sitcom, According to Jim -- a show where Nakamura has made a guest appearance.

They tied the knot on October 6, 2012. Some reports suggest that they might be separated, but their divorce has not yet been officially confirmed.

6. She is one of the Leads in HBO's Avenue 5

Suzy recently starred in the ambitious HBO science-fiction comedy series, Avenue 5.

She plays Iris Kimura, one of the associate owners of the Avenue 5 interplanetary cruise ship and the assistant to Josh Gad's character, the billionaire owner of the ship, Herman Judd.

The series stars Hugh Laurie in the lead role flanked by supporting performances from Rebecca Front, Zach Woods, Jessica St. Clair, Lenora Crichlow, and Kyle Bornheimer, to name a few

After a successful first-season run, the show was renewed for a second season in February 2020.

5. Acting Credits in Movies like Deep Impact, Evan Almighty, and Horrible Bosses 2

Nakamura's versatility was lauded not only on the small screens but also on the silver screens. Although the majority of her roles are geared towards comedy, the doesn't mean that she is a one-trick pony.

On the contrary, her performance in drama movies such as Strawberry Fields, 8mm, and Deep Impact is a testament to her versatility, while her comedic roles in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Must Love Dogs, Evan Almighty, and Horrible Bosses 2 demonstrates where her talents truly lie. 

4. Co-Founder of The Second City Detroit Comedy Theatre

Not only is Nakamura a premier improv comedian, but she was also instrumental in helping foster the next generation of artists looking to get their foot in through the door.

She co-founded The Second City Detroit comedy theatre and training center in September 1993. Based in downtown Detroit, Michigan, the club was a hub for comedy hopefuls and traveling artists alike and at his height, helped establish many careers; and although the theatre has been renamed to the City Theater (Detroit), the spirit remains the same as it was in 1993. 

3. Starred Alongside Ken Jeong in Dr. Ken

When one thinks of an Asian-American actor/comedian, perhaps the first name that pops to mind is that of Ken Jeong. One of the more famous people in his line of job, Jeong found success in the sitcom Community and even more success in the Hangover movie franchise.

Jeong starred as Dr. Kendrick "Ken" Park in the ABC sitcom, Dr. Ken, a dramatized retelling of his experience as a doctor before he became an actor.

Nakamura stars as Dr. Allison Park, Dr. Ken's wife and mother to their two children. The show was canceled after two seasons on May 11, 2017.

Since 1996, Suzy has made appearances in countless TV comedies and sitcoms.

She has made guest appearances in such TV comedies as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Modern Family, Bones, How I Met Your Mother, Melissa & Joey, Veep, and All About the Washingtons. 

Her more prominent roles include Daddio, Imagine That, Half & Half, Help Me Help You, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Black-ish.
