Diana-Maria Riva is an American actress.

Riva made her on-screen debut in 1996 in the short-lived sitcom, Common Law. She has since been a staple of the small screens and the big screens; perhaps being most well-known for playing Annie in Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Edie Ortega in The West Wing.

She has also made numerous movie appearances including movies like What Women Want, The Third Wheel, Employee of the Month, 17 Again, and Kajillionaire.

Here are seven facts about Diana-Maria Riva. 

7. Star of the Netflix Original Series, Dead to Me

Riva stars as Detective Ana Perez in the Netflix black comedy series, Dead to Me.

She plays the lead detective in charge of the hit-and-run case that sets the events of the series in motion.

The series is helmed by Christina Applegate as Jen Harding, the real-estate agent left widowed by the hit-and-run. Linda Cardellini plays Judy Hale, a woman that Jen befriends in their therapy group; a woman with a dark secret.

Rounding out the main cast are James Marsden, Max Jenkins, Sam McCarthy, and Suzy Nakamura, among others. 

The series premiered to widespread critical acclaim on Netflix on May 3, 2019. Spurred on by the rave reviews and fan interest, Netflix announced that it had picked up the series for a second season in June 2019. The show is expected to return on May 8, 2020.      

6. Played Annie in Sabrina the Teenage Witch 

Riva gained widespread acclaim and popularity for her appearance as Annie Martoz in the supernatural sitcom series, Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The series has a place in pop-culture history as being both acclaimed and highly influential. The sitcom starred Melissa Joan Hart as the titular Sabrina Spellman, a teenager who learns on her sixteenth birthday that she is a witch.  

Riva was introduced in the first episode of the show's seventh and final season as Sabrina's employer. She quickly became a recurring character, appearing in a total of 10 episodes from 2002 to 2003. 

5. Appeared in Movies like The Third Wheel, 17 Again, and Kajillionaire

Diana-Maria made her feature film debut in 2000 in the romantic-fantasy-comedy movie starring Mel Gibson, What Women Want.

She went on to play a minor background character in the 2002 romantic-comedy, The Third Wheel, starring Ben Affleck, Denise Richards, and Luke Wilson

She went on to have more prominent roles in the later half of her career. Most notably, she played Deloris Crabtree in the 2004 black comedy movie, Employee of the Month, starring Matt Dillon and her Dead to Me co-star, Christina Applegate.

She has also had appearances in movies like 17 Again, Our Family Wedding, and Love & Mercy.

Most recently, she also played Farida in the 2020 comedy-crime-drama movie, Kajillionaire, starring Evan Rachel Wood, Richard Jenkins, Gina Rodriguez, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, among others.  

4. Her Age, Height, and Ethnicity

Diana-Maria was born Diana-Maria Uhlenbrock on July 22, 1969, in Cincinnati, Ohio. As of April 2020, she is 50 years old. 

Diana-Maria was born to dentist Chris B. Uhlenbrock and his wife, Maria Riva, and is partially of Dominican heritage from her mother's side.

She attended the all-girls Catholic school, St. Ursula Academy, in her hometown. She went on to attend the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, from where she first earned her Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree in Theatre, and later her Master in Fine Arts Degree, also in Theatre. 

Diana-Maria is 5' 6" tall. 

3. On-Screen Debut in Common Law

Diana-Maria made her on-screen debut more than two decades ago in the ABC sitcom, Common Law. She started her career in 1996 as Maria Marquez  in the short-lived sitcom.   

Common Law was canceled after four episodes due to dwindling ratings, but it proved as a stepping stone from which Riva launched a very successful career.

Riva was set to be a prominent character -- starring in all four aired episodes as the receptionist at the law firm around which the series centered -- had the show not been canceled.

2. Played Edie Ortega in The West Wing

Another one of Riva's outstanding television roles came in 2005 when she played Edie Ortega, the Deputy Campaign Manager for Strategic Planning, in the NBC political serial drama, The West Wing.

The highly acclaimed political drama starred Martin Sheen, Allison Janney, John Spencer, and Rob Lowe, among others, and to date, remains one of Riva's biggest roles.  

Despite seemingly having impossibly-large shoes to fill, sharing the screens with established television veterans, Riva held her own and garnered critical and fan acclaim for her portrayal of Ortega.

She made her first appearance in the opening episode of the show's seventh season, and had recurring appearances throughout the season, playing the role from 2005 to 2006.
