Jessica St. Clair is an American actress, writer, and improv comedian. 

Born on September 21, 1976, the 43-year-old New Jersey native was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but even under heavy chemotherapy, she continued to fulfill her television obligations.

She has been a major fixture of the comedy scene with her appearances, not only in movies and TV shows but also in theatres.

7. Main Cast of HBO Space-Comedy Sci-Fi Series, Avenue 5

Jessica recently starred in the HBO sci-fi comedy series, Avenue 5, starring Hugh Laurie and Josh Gad

The series follows the titular Avenue 5 interplanetary cruise ship and the adventures had on-board when a mechanical failure derails the ship out of its course.

The first season premiered on HBO on January 19, 2020, and has since been renewed for a second season in February 2020.  

Trivia: She is set to star in another sci-fi comedy series, this time for Netflix, in Space Force, starring Steve Carell and John Malkovich, set to premiere on May 29, 2020  

6. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2015

In 2017, Jessica dropped the bombshell that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, in a candid essay that she penned for the standuptocancer.org website.

Her essay read:

"I used to joke that since breastfeeding my b**bs looked like an old athletic sock with some loose change at the bottom, so when I felt a lump the size of a marble I knew something was terribly wrong."

When she got diagnosed, the report revealed that she had stage 2b estrogen-positive breast cancer. She underwent double mastectomy and had went into 16 rounds of chemotherapy that lasted until April 2016. 

Despite her diagnosis, she went into work for the third season of the USA Network comedy series, Playing House, and her ordeal was interwoven into a character arc for her on-screen character, Emma Crawford, who also developed breast cancer in the show.  

5. Mother of a Daughter by Husband, Playwright and Poet Dan O'Brien

Jessica has been married since 2006 to the playwright and poet Dan O'Brien. They tied the knot on July 15, 2006.

On October 1, 2013, they welcomed their first child, daughter, Isobel Kelly O'Brien. Her daughter was not yet two years old when Jessica was diagnosed with breast cancer September in 2015.     

4. Had Roles in Comedy Movies like It's Complicated, She's Out of My League, Bridesmaids, and The Dictator

Jessica has been part of numerous blockbuster comedy movies.

She had a minor role as a wedding specialist in the 2009 romantic-comedy, It's Complicated starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin.

In the 2010 romantic-comedy, She's Out of My League, Jessica played Debbie; in the 2011 comedy movie, Bridesmaids, Jessica played Whitney.  

She also played Denise in the 2012 satirical comedy, The Dictator, starring Sacha Baron Cohen.

3. Her Esteemed Improvisational Comedy Career

Besides her comedic on-screen roles in some of the biggest TV shows and movies, Jessica is also an improv comedian who cut her teeth in such establishments as the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, in New York and Los Angeles, with her improv-comedy troupe, Mother.

Jessica developed a lifelong friendship with fellow actress and comedy-enthusiast, Lennon Parham, whom she went on to collaborate with frequently throughout her career.

The duo co-starred in two sitcoms, Best Friends Forever and Playing House, albeit neither sitcom could last particularly long and were canceled abruptly.

Jessica was also a series regular on the sitcom, In the Motherhood, and she went on to make guest appearances in many other sitcoms and comedy series like Parks and Recreation, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Veep, Key & Peele, and Arrested Development.
