Philip Glenister is an English actor. He is most known for his work on television in shows like Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Hidden, Prey, Outcast, and Belgravia.     

His movie portfolio also boasts such titles as Calendar Girls, Kingdom of Heaven, and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.

7. Father of Two Children with Wife Beth Goddard

Glenister has been married since 2006 to the English actress Beth Goddard. They met at a mutual friend's birthday party in 1997 and started going out.

They dated for nine years and had two children before tying the knot in 2006.

They have two daughters together: Millie, born in 2002, and Charlotte, born in 2005.   

6. Comes from a Film Family

Philip Glenister was born Philip Haywood Glenister on February 10, 1963. Born in Harrow, Middlesex, England, Philip is the younger of two sons born to TV director John Glenister and his wife, Joan Fry Lewis

John Glenister was a BAFTA Award-winning director of such TV shows as Marie Curie, The Six Wives of Henry VIII, and Screen Two.

Philip's older brother, Robert Glenister is an actor in his own right. He is most known for his work in such TV shows as Paranoid, Close to the Enemy, Cold Feet, and Curfew. Robert was married to the actress Amanda Redman, who was the impetus behind Philip pursuing an acting career.   

5. Stars in the ITV Historical Drama Miniseries, Belgravia

Glenister recently starred in the historical drama miniseries, Belgravia. The series is centered around the affluent Trenchard family as they make connections with the wealthy elite class of London.

Philip Glenister stars as the patriarch of the Trenchard family, James Trenchard. Tamsin Greig plays his wife, Anne Trenchard; and Emily Reid, their daughter, Sophia Trenchard.

The show also stars Jeremy Neumark Jones, Alice Eve, Nicholas Rowe, and James Chalmers, among others.

Belgravia debuted in the UK on ITV on March 15, 2020, and in the US on Epix on April 12, 2020.       

4. Lead Role in BBC Drama Life on Mars and Sequel, Ashes to Ashes

Philip Glenister has the chops to be a lead man, a fact he proved with his leading roles in numerous TV shows.

He played one of the lead characters, Gene Hunt, in the BBC One science-fiction/police procedural drama series, Life on Mars. The series ran for two seasons from January 9, 2006, to April 10, 2007.

The overwhelmingly positive reception spawned off a sequel series, Ashes to Ashes that ran from February 7, 2008, to May 21, 2010. Glenister reprised his role as Gene Hunt and remained a fan favorite.  

3. Appearances in Calendar Girls and Kingdom of Heaven

Philip's career has mostly been associated with television. A majority of his work was seen on television and he has only had a handful of work in feature films.

Despite that, Glenister has been part of some of the most acclaimed movies in recent history. He played Lawrence in the 2003 comedy movie, Calendar Girls, starring industry titans Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.

Glenister also made an appearance in the 2005 epic-historical drama Kingdom of Heaven, directed by Ridley Scott and featuring an ensemble cast consisting of Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, Edward Norton, Iain Glen, and Michael Sheen, among others.   

2. Played Lead Role as Reverend Anderson in Outcast

Glenister also had a lead role in the doomed supernatural-horror-drama series, Outcast.  Based on the eponymous comic series by Robert Kirkman -- the mastermind behind The Walking Dead graphic comics --  the series explores demonic possession in the town of Rome, West Virginia.

Glenister starred as Reverend John Anderson in the series, a close associate and confidant of a man thought to have killed his wife and daughter while under demonic possession. 

The series wound up being canceled after the second season after a run that lasted from June 3, 2016, to September 28, 2018.

It is estimated that Philip Glenister's net worth is somewhere around $1 million --hardly surprising considering his extensive body of work.

Glenister was born into an acting family and he more than picked up the slack, excelling at every project he indulged in. To date, he has 71 acting credits.
