Paul Kaye is an English actor, singer, musician, artist, and comedian. The 55-year-old veteran has lived a colorful life, and whether he was being praised or ridiculed, he was always the center of attention.

He became a topic of contention in the entertainment industry for his alter-ego, Dennis Pennis, who made a name out of insulting celebrities- no matter their stature. 

He is also an illustrator whose works can be found in theatres all over England. His on-screen body-of-work is embellished by performances in the HBO fantasy-drama series, Game of Thrones, and the movies Dracula Untold and Pan.

Most recently, he shares the screen with Ricky Gervais as his shrink in the Netflix black-comedy series, Afterlife

Here are seven facts about Paul Kaye:     

7. Married Father of Two with Wife, Orly Katz

Paul Kaye has been in a longstanding marriage with Orly Katz since 1989. The two met when Paul was living abroad on a kibbutz in Israel. They struck up a romance, and by 1989, they were wed.

Despite seeming an eternity, their love for each other is as strong as it was when they first fell in love and between the two of them, they have two children: both boys, named Jordan Katz Kaye, born in October 1991, and Geffen Strummer Kaye, born in December 2002. 

6. Plays Ricky Gervais' Psychiatrist in After Life

Paul Kaye plays the psychiatrist of Ricky Gervais' lead character, Tony Johnson, in the Netflix black-comedy series, Afterlife. Tony checks into a shrink when his wife dies of breast cancer, and Tony finds himself in a pit of despair and nihilism.

The show is also directed by Gervais, and stars other talents such as Kerry Godliman, Roisin Conaty, Ashley Jensen, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, and Tony Way, to name a few.    

5. Played Thoros of Myr in Game of Thrones

Paul Kaye's high profile TV appearance is capped off by his 10-episode stint in the HBO fantasy-drama epic, Game of Thrones.

Kaye played Thoros of Myr in the show. Thoros is a red priest who, by praying to the Lord of Light, can grant a select few resurrections from the dead.

Thoros was a major character in the series, and Paul made intermittent appearances in the show throughout 2013 and on to 2017. 

4. Was in Numerous Rock Bands Like We Are Pleb and TV Eye

Kaye was an avid fan of the punk band, Sid Vicious, and was inspired to start his own rock band. He gained notoriety as the frontman for the psychedelic band, We are Pleb, and for his on-stage antics.

He was also a member of the band, TV Eye, from 1992. In their short-lived career, they released two singles.   

3. Illustrator for NME, i-D, Literary Review, Time Out, and International Musician 

 Paul Kaye had been grooming himself for showbiz since his teens and studied a two-year foundation course at Harrow School of Art and theatre design at Trent Polytechnic.

He had a stint designing posters for King's Head, the Bush Theatre and the Gate Theatre. He also was an illustrator for magazines such as NME, i-D, Literary Review, Time Out, and International Musician.

2. Alter Ego Dennis Pennis

Paul Kaye's dynamic and eccentric persona would never be more apparent than in his alter ego, Dennis Pennis. The persona was the brainchild of Kaye and his friend, Anthony Hines. He dressed to stand out and would interview celebrities asking salacious questions.

The character was meant to offend, and offend he did! Before he "killed off" the character in 1997, he had racked up a list of offended-celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Demi Moore, Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, and Bruce Willis.

Whether he was garnering acclaim for his preternatural talent or controversy for his eccentric persona, Paul Kaye is almost always the center of attention. 

An artist, a comedian, and an actor, Kaye's net worth is estimated to be $1 million.  

His blockbuster roles include appearances in TV shows like Game of Thrones, and Shameless, and movies like Dracula Untold, Pan, and Anna and the Apocalypse.

He also plays Ricky Gervais' character's shrink in the Netflix black-comedy-drama series, Afterlife, set to premiere its second season on 24 April 2020.
