Anna Torv is an Australian actress who has carved a very successful career for herself in the niche of crime-drama, starring in such acclaimed TV series as Fringe and Mindhunter.    

The 40-year-old has been the recipient of critical acclaim for her work as Olivia Dunham in the sci-fi crime-drama Fringe and, most recently, as Dr. Wendy Carr in the Netflix series Mindhunter.

With talks of a third season of Mindhunter in the works, we take a look at seven facts about the Aussie Anna Torv and her career and otherwise milestones.   

7. Divorce With Actor Mark Valley

Contrary to her gay character, Dr. Carr in Mindhunter, Anna is straight. She was married to the American actor Mark Valley. They both met on-set of Fringe and struck up a romance.

Anna walked the aisle in a ceremony in December 2008. They would get divorced in 2009 after being married only a year. 

6. Beat 340 Others For The Lead Role In Fringe

Anna landed her biggest role at the time when she beat 300 American and 40 Australian prospects to star in J.J. Abrams' sci-fi drama-thriller series Fringe. 

Even before her audition, Abrams was set on casting Anna after being impressed with her audition tape for an Australian show. 

Anna landed the lead role on Fringe, the FBI agent Olivia Dunham and her doppelganger in an alternate universe.  

5. Plays Dr. Wendy Carr In The 2017 Netflix Series Mindhunter

Following her acclaimed performance in Fringe, she landed a role as Dr. Wendy Carr, in another more grounded crime-drama series Mindhunter.

She is one of three central characters, alongside Holden Ford, played by Jonathan Groff and William Tench played by Holt McCallany.

Together, they are the linchpins of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, in charge of interviewing and profiling serial killers including Ed Kemper, which was played by actor Cameron Britton.

4. Anna Torv Has Had a Successful Career In Theatre

Besides a lucrative career as an on-screen actress, Anna has dabbled in theatre performance as well. A fixture of theatre, she has played in numerous plays since her debut in 1986 in the play The Night Before Christmas. 

Other notable theatre credits include the role of Ophelia in the Shakespeare classic Hamlet for the Bell Shakespeare theatre in Sydney, Australia, and as Anya in the play The Cherry Orchard for the Sydney Theatre Company.

3. The Actress Voiced Nariko In The 2007 PlayStation 3 Video Game Heavenly Sword 

Despite being outspoken about her displeasure of violent video games, Anna voiced Nariko in the hack-and-slash action-adventure video game Heavenly Sword

To portray the main protagonist, Nariko, Anna performed motion capture at the New Zealand-based WETA Digital studio. 

About her character, Torv said in an interview:

I didn't know much about video games. There are some awfully violent ones. But Heavenly Sword is different. I've had huge conversations with a friend who made it. I think what he wants to do is to make the player care. Yes, there's killing. But the character I play in "Heavenly Sword", "Nariko", is ultimately protecting her family and this runaway girl. It's a beautiful game. It's beyond a video game. The landscape is to protect and to care.

Anna was born to Estonian father Hans Torv and Scottish mother Susan Torv on June 7, 1979, in Melbourne, Australia.       

The 5'7" actress frequently ranks in the list of the most beautiful women on TV. She has appeared four times in BuddyTV's list of "TV's 100 Sexiest Women", peaking at #16 in 2009.
